A Fun Year with Dolls!!!

Happy Joyous time to all of you in Cyber world!!!!
It's almost time for the Final year of the huge
One World One Heart Blog Event!

I have been away and it seems like forever!
I can't believe that life really is a cheesy quote from a cheesy soap opera,

Hello from the Halloween Show!

Happy Halloween To All!

I hope all is well!
I have been away and working and playing Hard!

The Halloween show opened at Eclectix on October 16th

and my work was shown

along with many amazing artists including my friend
Jennybird Alcantara !

The night was a blast and there were many artists

there to meet and mingle !

Such a great turnout and so much eyecandy!

Then Jenny and I jumped in a car and headed to L.A.

For the Aid for Aids benefit , Best In Drag Show

This event raised over 355,000 dollars in help

for the people suffering from this disease!

We laughed at the antics and the show

And we cried at the emotion and the depths

that people will go to help others.

Mary louise Parker and John C. Reily both

gave 10,000 dollars to the cause!

It was an honor to be able to contribute even in a small way!

We were definitely feelin' the Love!!!!

This is a work in progress for Jacqui at Odd dolls
She is going to be "Eros goddess of chaos"
Can you see the chaos in the background?
That is my life at this moment!

HELLO EVERYONE!

Here we are in the circus of my world!
Three days ago I had surgery
I was living in the cloud of Vicodin and the cloud lifted!
Now that I am recouping I thought maybe
I could get caught up on a few things!
So here we go!

I hung some new art in the middle of my play things!
Notice the little hands below that think they need
to help contribute to mommy's mini gallery!

This is my new art doll "Ferral Girl"
She is made by Anita Collins
She is based on Gary MCrozier's series "Broken Dolls"
I love her! I hope you can see what I see!
She is so fragile and soft and yet she is very wild!
She is fur, needle felted, polymer clay,glass eyes,hair& stockings

I would love to get inside of Anita's head and see her inspiration
Is this little one looking at her own heart?
Or the Heart of another?

Next I recieved a lttle treasure from miss Michelle Schafer
over at The Studio at Crow Haven Farm

She is jumping for joy that she made it all the way to
a house full of dollies.
She is so poseable and fun to play with!
She has a paperclay head,polymer hands
with a cloth wrapped wire armature body.
Her clothing is hand sewn with an adorable beaded belt
Her little covered basket has a bunny

Her she is serene in her new home
I can see that she is enjoying her pink surroundings!

O.K. so it has been a while since I have had two minutes to sit
down and give everybody the "What's Up?"
About the show at Eclectix! WOW!
What a great night! So much positive feedback!
I wish you all could have been there in person
but I will do my best to convey the night
so you will feel like you were there
So we are gonna do this Tarantino style
cause the pics loaded backwards
We are starting with the after party!
This is my girlfriends husband John

The beautiful Assemblage work of Jack Howe!

Stories of art in Santa Cruz!
Yesterday I had the most wonderful privilege
of traveling to Santa Cruz with my beloved friends
Jennybird Alcantara and John Mosbaugh
We went to see the show at Cabrillo college Art Museum
Which was an installation of Jack Howe's work

His work is put together to deal with current and relevant issues
as well as tell where he has been and what roads he has traveled.
All of Jack's pieces tell amazing stories

My photos of course do not do the work justice
as it is so wonderful to see
it all as a whole installation
but these are some of the smaller details.

Jack has a great and twisted sense of humor
There is definitely a dark side to his work
but it is balanced well with the light side of humor.

This is a piece that he added an old canvas to and embellished
her in old, beautiful jewelry you might find
rummaging through your grandmothers drawers

Many of the pieces include old war relics, antique photographs
tiny metal guns,medallions from the Catholic church
so many little pieces of literal representation
that you can get the meaning
and the feelings he is conveying just by studying
all the imagery he has chosen to bring together!

"My Forgotten Doll"
Is my favorite piece as I relate to loving a doll so much
as a little girl and then moving on to boys and so on
only to come back to loving dolls again as a grown woman
and wishing I had many of those dolls that were"forgotten"
Oh The Irony!

This is Jack Howe at the end of our wonderfully guided
tour into his mind!
Jack thankyou so much for the wonderful evening
and the time spent painstakingly assembling
your beautiful stories, boxes, shrines and treasures of art!

Here is my installation piece almost done for the show in May at Eclectix! There are many other little pieces you can't see until she is completely done!
The painting still needs work and it will hang higher but I thought everyone might have fun seeing the work in progress pics!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and didn't go into too much of a food and chocolate coma! We had a great egg hunt ....and I still don't know what bunnies have to do with Jesus but we play along anyway (Actually I do know that the symbol of the bunny originated from the pagan beliefs of fertility ,hence the term, "F-ing like Rabbits" But I am baffled as to why they got mish mashed into what was for years considered a religious holiday.

They are so darn cute though! )
I mentioned having a give away so that will be in my next post! Until then I hope everyone is doing what they need to do to smile and laugh hysterically and not just go ho hum through life!!

What the heck is that?! My kids are making me crazy!

And so is my computer! AAAAUGH!
To turn it around I have to say I am so happy that I have both of those things to complain about!

Seriously, if I am honest , I have to say that I am as spoiled as all five of my monkeys!

I can only admit that here, cause they will never, ever read this!

If I count my blessings I would be busy for quite a while!
I am so happy that feelings of frustration pass

and that my paintings can be a cathartic experience

to get it out and breath again!

from her adorable husband John Mosbaugh
John is also an amazing artist in his own right.
He is a writer and he and Jenny have done a million
collabrative pieces together through their
ten years of craziness.
Last night I was bestowed with an autographed copy of John's book:
"Halloween in The Castro"
Besides writing poems for Jennybird's dolls,tons of short stories, he can whip up a play
and if you have ever had the privilege to see any of their productions,
you know what a talented duo they are!
I feel privileged to know that they are my friends!

She has been a total joy

to have known for almost my whole life!
She is as outrageous and fun as Jennybird
She has always encouraged Jenny in any project
she has ever taken on!
Last night Lynn told a great story about buying Jenny a drafting table

when she was twelve.
She laughingly added that her and Jenny's father are taking credit
for all that she has accomplished!
She is truly proud of Jenny as everything that she has jumped into with both feet
has brought all her hard work and labors of love to where she is today!

Here is my little "Allysin" almost finished!
I thought I would put some of the process up for my fellow artists to check out.

I still need to get a better bottle so I can paint the little "Drink Me" on the glass
She stands drying in my little front Garden.

I will still add polka dots to her socks
and paint the base.There are a few more accessories
for her but that can be a surprise for the finished work.

Don't you love to watch your work emerge?

She has been so much fun to work on!
She is just a hair over three feet tall.And my one year old thinks he needs to kiss her.
It is so cute except for the sticky fingers that I have to keep attacking
with baby wipes to keep him from leaving his mark on her!

I swear it's almost as fun as watching your baby grow...well not that fun,
but it is definitely a labor of love!

They are such great buddies!
These two almost never fight! They laugh and play and almost always have to be in each others spaces, they even share toys which is unheard of for one and three year old boys!
So my first two started fighting the day the second was born.
They have had to grow to love each other.They are so different and I always try to tell them that they are each others history.

They are sixteen months apart but there are times that they seem worlds apart!

The Baby! He is as wild and fun as his hat!
He is so fun and squishy ! I don't want to stop kissing his softy baby cheeks!

This is my one and only Favorite daughter! Here she is with her big brother.
She is planted smack in the middle of the house full of boys.
She says she loves it. Hmmm... should I be concerned?
She can definetely hold her own with them.
So I have talked about having five kids and they started to seem like
the imaginary kids since I had not put them in my blog.
( well, other than to use them for the excuse of why
I am living on caffeine)

So here are all my monkies,big and little.
I love them soooo much!
They are fun,lovable,noisy,
frustrating,creative,independant,needy,
hilarious,wild, a constant lesson in patience
and the light of my life!!!

I have so much on my plate right now
and yet here am, playing with my new found computer skills!
I should be painting or sculpting but I justify not doing that with the fact that if I get out paint or get my hands all covered in clay it seems to be the time without fail that I get a call from the school about some shennanigan that my son has gotten into, or one of my babies has wrecked their diaper.The constant interuptions do not work well with my art.Not because it wrecks my art but because I will neglect my responsibilities for the love of my art.So my art must wait until bedtime or an occasional day at Gramma and Poppas. Or until Daddy is free .I know all you multi- tasking mommies out there are getting me!!!
I can't believe how quickly time passes when I sit down to my computer.
You know the old saying" Time flies when your'e having fun."
I think in blog land it flies in double time!

Now that we all feel like Templeton the rat after a long day at the carnival ,well at least I do,it's time to go to bed fat and happy. Tomorrow there will be salad and plenty of water and another chance to be a good little soldier in the fight to force myself to eat healthy.
I did this painting, not because I was hungry, but because it reminds me of when I didn't have a care in the world.Not my health, not my body, not my looks, not who I saw, not where I lived, not how I spent my time, or wasted my time, not thinking it was wrong to live in my tutu , not that my body wouldn't be built for ballet,not cavities, not my hair being dissheveled, not my bills.....the list goes on and on . Shelter from the rain. I know we need this rain but can't it just rain at night? Everything would get a really great bath and the earth can have a drink and then those of us who have to drag toddlers in and out of carseats and mass groceries from the street.And I have to say that my artwork suffers because I do sooo much outside.So I am ready for this dark gloomy weather to end.Rain rain go away....at least in the day.

I want to say "Thankyou!" to everyone for all the wonderful compliments and the great response. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone on the Gypsy caravan.
I have had sooo many series of emotions as I have read through peoples lives on thier blogs.I love the fearlessness of the people willing to be vulnerable and tell all the heart wrenching details of the circumstances they are in right now! I sat many nights with tears rolling down my cheeks, feeling happiness for that new baby or niece or nephew or sadness for the passing of a dear friend or a loved pet.I sat sobbing reading about despair and cancer and people who are still fighting for their lives in the face of hopelessness.
I want to be this strong.I want you to know what an incredible inspiration you are. I feel helpless.I will be praying for all of you.
I know this is feeble but if it brings a smile to someone I will be thrilled! So this second gift is my attempt at reaching some little shred of happiness for you out there, that I crazily feel connected to because you shared little pieces of your world with me!!!
I will be continuing to attempt to finish the list as I really only had time to respond to those that reached out to me .I can't wait to meet you all!

This is my little Sasha marrionette, she was made with one of my best girlfriends as the inspiration. She looks on at her sisters...I wonder what she is thinking?
I am soooo excited because right now she is hanging in the window of Eclectix , Patricia Zemanek's gallery in El Cerrito, Ca. Sasha is dressed in her bright red tutu with her little black heart tattooed on her chest. She is ready to celebrate Valentine's day. The day of love. She will not be cynical ,even though that makes her laugh, because she just has too many people in her life who love her!
Life has a funny way of shaping us.It always amazes how two people can have the same events happen in their life and yet they come away with a completely different experience.One can grow and learn and soften while the other holds on to the pain and the bitterness and has a morose look on life, just barely exisisting.

I hope for more than exisisting. I have had my "curled up in the fetal position" days. Days where you have to be talked off the ledge.Not too many but enough to appreciate the wonderful days. I hope you have someone wonderful to reel you back in . Someone who pushes you to create and stop when it's not right and begin again. And stand up for what you believe and for what you know is right for you! To be strong and make you laugh when you really just thought you would be crying all day.I love you Jenny!p>

This is a shadow box I sculpted and built five years ago for my first artshow.A man named Terry Letson came in and bought the piece at a little gallery.Six weeks later when the show ended I delivered the piece to him.We talked about art for a while and then food and then movies and then life and the next thing you know he invited me to dinner.We were inseperableand not long after that he asked me to marry him! We were married six months later.I love him with all my heart .Especially the part where we have been able to make each others dreams come true!

This is how I feel when I haven't finished my daily hopes of what I want to do and when I can't figure something out on my computer and when I have heard Mom,Mo-oooom (my daughter says it in two syllables and with lots of super fun attitude) Mommy or Momma yelled just one too many times through my house! It's so nice that they are all in bed now.It is so true how angelic( and quiet) they are when they sleep. Can't they sleep just a little more? Five kids? .Most of the time I wish I could still live in the tutu I never wanted to take off as a child.I know that I am just a little girl trapped in an adults body.Whenever I get the chance to wear a petticoat or a tutu I still do.As " Phantom of the Opera" plays in the back ground, I can remember all those times of ballet class and dancing in front of a mirror dreaming of the stage. Fortunatley I have the best crazy girlfriends that "get it"! I love all things feminine and nothing could replace those amazing connections with all my girly friends! The New Year is here and I am hoping that everyone out there has the time and energy to create all the ideas that are taking up space in their mind .I don't make" Resolutions" but I am going to work toward better time management for the new year.Time management and a disorganized house seem to be the things I struggle with the most. I have enough art supplies in my home that I could open a store but so many times I can't find what I need and I wind up just buying more.I don't feel completely guilty about this as it's stuff I always wind up using eventually.There is an element of time wasted though having to go to the store and rebuy something that I KNOW I already own.Time to go and attempt to organize ....something,anything and then get to work!
